William G. Heedy is a founding Principal at Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC, where he serves as the senior attorney in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. William is a registered patent attorney having experience in all matters related to U.S. and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, trademarks and copyrights.
William has experience in a variety of technologies in the electromechanical and mechanical arts, including telecommunications systems and equipment, consumer products, and industrial machinery.
With respect to trademark matters, William has considerable experience preparing trademark applications, representing clients in opposition and cancellation actions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, preparing trademark clearance opinions focused on the likelihood of registration, and determining whether a proposed trademark might infringe on another party’s rights, and developing corporate trademark policies.
In addition to managing intellectual property portfolios, William also assists clients with licensing agreements, opinion work, infringement and validity matters, and various cease and desist disputes. When executing these services, William enjoys engaging with the client to understand their business and IP goals to facilitate thoughtful, efficient, and targeted solutions for their IP portfolios.
Prior to Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC, William was a Principal at the largest law firm headquartered in Asheville.

When William is not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Hannah, and their daughters, Eleanor and Charlotte. William is an avid baseball fan, catching as many Tourists games as he can in addition to (hopefully) a game or two in the bleachers at Wrigley Field every season. William also enjoys attending live concerts, including having been to more than thirty Pearl Jam shows.
