
Senior Real Estate Attorney
Barrett McFatter is a Principal at Coffield Heedy Kilgore PLLC, where he serves as the senior attorney in the firm’s Real Estate practice group. With more than 15 years of experience practicing real estate law in Western North Carolina, Barrett focuses on commercial and residential real estate transactions and enjoys guiding clients through the closing process and other real property matters.
Barrett is skilled at assisting clients with various real estate matters, ranging from residential and commercial purchases, sales, refinancing or other complex financing transactions, as well as helping clients understand related matters, such as restrictive covenants, easements and leases. He also enjoys complex title matters which is often helpful for ownership and easement research, or to help families with inherited or heir property issues. Barrett always has an eye on helping
clients achieve their goals or vision for their property.
While Barrett’s passion is real estate law, he also offers counsel with estate planning, estate administration and small business matters. Committed to giving back, Barrett also provides pro bono services through the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer program of Pisgah Legal Services. From 2020 to 2023, he as a Council member on the North Carolina Bar Association’s Real Property Section and chaired its Pro Bono Committee. During his tenure, he helped establish a statewide Heir’s Property Pro Bono Project sponsored by the North Carolina Bar Foundation, a program he continues to support.

Barrett is a lifelong resident of Buncombe County, North Carolina, and is proud to call Asheville home. Raised in Black Mountain, he has strong ties to the Blue Ridge, with his parents having operated businesses in Asheville’s South Slope and downtown Hendersonville for over 45 years. Barrett loves to explore the mountains of Western North Carolina with his wife Anna Grace, and their daughter. They can often be found together enjoying live music and local restaurants, hiking, mountain biking, snow skiing, playing tennis, or water-skiing on Lake James.
